Iran’s cineastes visit ailing director Fereydoun Jeyrani in hospital

Cineastes visit director of ifilm series ‘‘The Gradual Death of a Dream’ Fereydoun Jeyrani in hospital.

A group of artists and cineastes has visited Fereydoun Jeyrani, the director of ifilm series ‘The Gradual Death of a Dream’, in hospital after he suffered a stroke.

Seyyed Mohammad-Mehdi Tabatabaeenejad, an official in the Iranian Organization of Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs, visited Jeyrani on Wednesday afternoon on behalf of the chairman of the organization Hossein Entezami.

Tabatabaeenejad was accompanied by other officials at the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance as well as reporters.

The veteran director was admitted to hospital three days ago after suffering a stroke.

Many artists, including Mostafa Zamani and Setareh Pesyani, also visited Jeyrani over the past few days.

Jeyrani is expected to be discharged from hospital soon as his health is not in “dangerous” condition, reports said.

Born in 1951, Jeyrani entered the film industry by writing the screenplay for a movie by Mehdi Sabaghzadeh in 1981 and continued writing until 1987 when he directed his first movie.

He has directed several movies, including ‘Red’, ‘Fire and Water’, ‘The Last Supper’, ‘Pink’, ‘Season Salad’, ‘Zagros’, the trilogy of ‘Stars’, ‘Parkway’, ‘Parya's Story’, and ‘I'm a Mother’.

Jeyrani has been nominated for several awards for movies such as ‘Red’, ‘The Last Supper’ and ‘Pink’.

Besides ‘The Gradual Death of a Dream’, he has made various series, including ‘The Warped Interpretation of a Dream’, which was also aired on ifilm English TV channel.

In addition to directing, Jeyrani is a producer, cinematographer, screenplay writer, television anchor and journalist.
